My First Week Back In College

Image      This is my first week back at school and I do have to say that it has been a very interesting week. First I would like to say that this is my first time going to school on campus and I have to say I really like coming to school rather than online, but that’s another story. At first I thought I was going to get lost trying to find my classes but that didn’t happen. I’m glad that IUE is not that big of a campus.

Me being 33 I thought all the fresh out of high school students was going to look at me like “who is this old lady and why is she here?”, but I haven’t gotten any strange looks yet. So far though everyone has been so nice. I think, especially in the pre req classes, everyone is just nervous.  I know I am! I have been able to buy a book off of a returning  student and I even got invited to a party. I really felt cool after that. I wanted to run home and tell my 15 going on 22-year-old daughter that I still had it, especially because I was invited by a guy. I just laughed out loud at that last sentence.

I have realized that I have acquired a pet peeve already. Let’s say a bit of an irritant. I have come to the realization that I CAN NOT stand when a teacher is talking and students (yes that means plural) are having a whole conversation about something totally different. I mean why are you here? I am in a class where there are three particular student who constantly talk while the professor is talking and you can tell that the professor is irritated, but it is the first week. Another one of my classes there is a student who comments on every single solitary thing the professor said. We could barely get through the syllabus because he had so many questions about what was on it. That made for a long class.

Well anyway like I said it is the first week, stay tuned for following weeks. I hope they are as exciting as this week has been.

  1. Hello! As long as you’re coming back and getting the education you’ve been wanting, then who cares what the others here on campus have to say, or even the looks they give. You’re doing something for you, and that’s what truly matters. It may sting if they ever do it, but just remember that you’re here making an effort. You’re brave for being at IU East as a thirty-three year old, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! Sounds like you’ve met some pretty interesting people already, and I’m sure you’ll continue to meet even more as the years press on. Continue to give it your all, and I wish you only the best! See you in class Wednesday!
